Itinerary
Times are approximate. The day adapts to you: more time where you like it, less where you don't.
Central Tirana
- 09:00
Hotel pickup & Skanderbeg Square
Pickup from your hotel and a short drive to the heart of the city. Walk across the vast pedestrian square with the equestrian statue of Skanderbeg, Albania's national hero, facing the Palace of Culture, home of the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet.
~3 min on foot
09:30Et'hem Bey Mosque & Clock Tower
Step inside the small Et'hem Bey Mosque, completed in the early 19th century and known for its rare frescoes of trees and landscapes. Next to it stands the Clock Tower, a symbol of the city, which can usually be climbed for a view over the square.
~3 min on foot
10:00Bunk'Art 2
A nuclear bunker built for the communist-era Ministry of Internal Affairs, now a museum on the history of the police, the Sigurimi secret police and the people it persecuted. Allow about an hour.
~5 min on foot
11:00House of Leaves (optional)
The Museum of Secret Surveillance, in the building the Sigurimi used to spy on citizens — a moving look at everyday life under the dictatorship. In the autumn–winter season it is closed on Mondays.
~5 min drive
11:45Pyramid of Tirana & Postbllok
Opened in 1988 as a museum dedicated to the dictator Enver Hoxha, the Pyramid reopened in 2023 after a renovation by the Dutch studio MVRDV. It now houses the TUMO technology centre for teenagers, and anyone can climb the steps to the top. Nearby, the Postbllok memorial preserves a bunker, a section of the Berlin Wall and concrete pillars from the Spaç prison camp.
~5 min on foot
12:30Coffee in Blloku
Once a closed residential zone reserved for the communist leadership — Enver Hoxha's villa still stands here — Blloku is now Tirana's liveliest neighbourhood of cafés, bars and restaurants.
~20 min drive
13:00Optional: Dajti Ekspres cable car
Extend the tour by about two hours: drive to the base station on the edge of the city and ride the cable car (around 15 minutes) up Mount Dajti for panoramic views over Tirana. Bunk'Art 1, the vast bunker built for the communist leadership, is close to the base station. The cable car does not run on Tuesdays. Otherwise, drop-off at your hotel at around 13:00.
